Hey! Welcome to Blank Skateboards.
Blank is just a skate, snowboard, and surfboard shop, not a fashion outlet like a lot fake "skateshops" out there. We have been in the business for over 15 years in the form of one shop or another, and have been skating, snowboarding, and in some cases even surfing for just as long. Blank came to be in 2009 because there's no "skateshop" shops around anymore. You know - the old school little hole-in-the-wall, privately owned, underground type? Actually I guess a lot of you probably wouldn't know... To keep things brief, it made me want to throw up in my mouth a little thinking about how my 4 year old son might get the impression that skateboarding is more about $400 watches then a clean kick flip, so here we are.
Blank is trying everyday to bring back a small slice of skateboarding's past, when skateboarding was just, well, skateboarding. We carry mostly Canadian brands and smaller indie companies that most kids don't want because they aren't cool, but its the right thing to do. Sometimes we open late and close early because we like to skateboard and party a bit. We feel strongly that a skateshop is a base for a group of friends and an ever growing community before anything else. We expect - actually we know - a lot of "skaters" won't like us because we aren't a bunch of brand pandering assholes wearing skinny jeans and flannel shirts. We haven't made a cent in the last year because we have a hard time charging our friends full price for anything... and by friends, that's pretty much anyone who cared enough to come see what we're all about and be kind enough to spend their money here. The most important thing to us is that we're all having fun. "Boards" - skate, snow, surf - is what we do, and we know a lot about them. We don't know as much about limited edition watches and headphones, or "artist-calabo" print tshirts and stuff.
Blank is getting busier and with the addition of a new store this fall, a bit bigger, but not at the cost of our friends, family, and the pastime we enjoy so much. Apparently our idea of a skateshop being somewhere you go to escape - as opposed to fit in - is catching on (well, catching on again as this was the idea 30 years ago to begin with...) and it seems that things are getting a bit back to normal every time we hear that someone from some shitty teenage girl's clothing shop posing as a "skateshop" said that Blank is lame. We are desperate for those people to not like us!! Thank You!!! I guarantee you make us ten times sicker, but oddly enough we'll still say hi at the skatepark.
Having said all of this, if the mega-gigantic corporate trendy side of skateboarding keeps you happy and entertained, and you're not doing any meth, good on you, I guess. If you like skateboarding because its fun and that's it, that's pretty awesome too, and you will most likely really enjoy our shop. Big thanks to our sick team, reps, and friends that are down with our program, and to all the haters that just don't and never will get it - you truly make it easier for the rest of us. Enjoy.
